Happenings Without Things is a political economy strategy game designed around "lag"

By naroah

The initial design of the game started from the lag of the market itself, but eventually the "lag" was split into four interlaced levels: economic lag, policy lag, information lag and political lag. The economic impact of the bill will gradually enter the market in the next few months. Policies can be postponed by players on their own initiative. The problem may have already occurred, but it will not be known to the government until later. However, it will not really change the parliamentary structure until the next year before the players solve their problems and accept their conditions today. Players need to deal with emerging social issues and get proposals from interest groups. Common bloc proposals in the game tend to lower an economic indicator, but their adoption not only trades for parliamentary support, but also reshapes the "gap" between indicators ". The policy will read the real gap at the time and translate it into new effects when it is implemented in the future. Therefore, a political compromise that looks negative at the moment may also become the resource needed to solve the problem in a few months. This makes players always need to judge: implement the policy now and get a more certain result; or continue to wait and let the gap widen, while taking the risk of market changes narrowing or even reversing the result. The bill must eventually pass Parliament. Members of different races have different political rules, which is not a unified logic of one seat and one vote; long-term changes in interest groups and racial politics will further affect the Penglai Treaty. The contract method is not a numerical upgrade tree in the traditional sense. The closer it is to the end, the more it will directly rewrite the rules of the game itself and further institutionalize the political structure that has been formed.
